National Leadership Development Seminar 2009, Bad Harzburg, Germany

Have you ever thought about having one week just for yourself? This dream can come true if you decide to go for National Leadership Development Seminar in Germany. There is a hidden place in the national park where you are surrounded by nature with other people from many different countries. We (Janča, Miška and Míra) experienced this unique atmosphere this autumn. We went for this self-discovery journey in order to get to know better ourselves.

The vision of this conference is to empower young people and awake ther leadership potential, such that it supports the vision of the whole AIESEC: „Peace and fulfillment of humankind’s potential.“. However, NaLDS is mainly about YOU – to explore your values, style of leadership, connection of your dreams and reality… The additional value is also in being in homegroups with facilitators and other delegates and gaining their external points of view.

The concept of NaLDS is simple but enormously influencing. Everything begins with get to know sessions with your homegroup. Thanks to outdoor games you get trust in others. Than the actual part of getting to know yourself begins. From introducing your river of your life, through thinking about leadership generally and leadership inside you, you get to your values, setting vision and to concrete next steps that are needed to be done after leaving NaLDS. Through the whole week 2 facilitators in each homegroup support you, lead you and discuss with you. They are people who have already experienced it so they perfectly understand your feelings.

Who has not lived it, he will not understand. For me, the conference was a place where I got the possibility to get rid of my fears, where I became relaxed after many months, where I could share openly what I think, where I got the energy for next weeks, where I got to know wonderful people, where I got closer to my “old” friends, where I learnt to speak about things that are deep in my heart... I would be able to write even more words and sentences what NaLDS gave me but you would not probably enjoy just reading it. The most intensive moment was after one workshop called “My 80^th birthday”. Before I went to this workshop, I had been rather pessimistic about its impact. But you would not imagine how it turned to be one of the best moments. A person is surprised how he imagines himself in 80s, and believe me or not, it is really powerful and it makes you to be moved for a while. I was so impressed with so much energy hidden inside that I had to go with a group of people to a forest just to shout as much loud as possible. Why? Simply I felt it that way.

And that is exactly what NaLDS is about. It gives you space to be yourself and to express it.

Stáž na Srí Lanke: všedné veci nevšedným spôsobom

Ostrov, lokalizovaný na opačnom konci sveta, tesne po ukončení nepokojov, nazývaný posvätným, bol vhodným predpokladom na nezabudnuteľnú stáž. Avšak ani v tých najtrúfalejších predstavách som nepredpokladala, že každý deň na ňom bude takým dobrodružstvom. Zamilovala som si krajiny, kde som nútená používať všedné veci nevšedným spôsobom.

Najhlbším dojmom aj s odstupom času ostáva absolútna bezvýznamnosť času, dohadovať sa na konkrétnom termíne je bezpredmetné. Priemerné hodinové meškanie je realitou, nie je sa kam náhliť a treba si užiť naplno prítomnosť. Pracovala som pre neziskovú organizáciu Horizon Lanka v dedinke Mahavilachchiya v severnejšej časti ostrova, a keď som tam prišla po prvýkrát, ostala som šokovaná, absolútne najlepšia zašiváreň akú som doteraz videla...chalúpka, nič, nič, chalúpka... poprepletaná úzkymi prašnými cestičkami plnými výmoľov a obklopená národným parkom a ryžovými políčkami. Ručné pranie, varenie na otvorenom ohni, hlinené podlahy, hygiena v potôčiku alebo provizórnej kúpeľni, jedenie rukami, palmová trieda, popíjanie kokosového mlieka z čerstvo natrhaných kokosov, lozenie po mangovníkoch, naháňanie korytnačiek a varanov ma len presviedčali v tom, že po troch mesiacoch bude transformácia na divožienku takmer dokonalá. V úplnom kontraste s tým pôsobila budova Horizon Lanky, kde bola dokonca klimatizácia a DVD, a čo bol pre mňa väčší šok, celá oblasť je zawifičkovaná. Viete si to predstaviť, v krajine, kde sa chodí spávať so sliepkami a vstáva sa s prvými lúčmi slnka (veľmi praktické vzhľadom na všadeprítomný hmyz, komáre a mravčeky), kde občas nie je ani prúd, majú internet. Ako mi neskôr bolo objasnené, bolo to aj z praktických dôvodov, pretože okrem využitia internetu pri výučbe, umožňuje kontakt so svetom, pretože cesty sú tak rozbité, že tlač sa tu občas dostane len veľmi ťažko. Za všetko hovorí, keď som si na vlastnej koži skúsila niekoľkokrát výmenu kolesa na prasknutie plnom autobuse a napriek tomu, že nik nevystúpil a moril sa s tým samučičký vodič, netrvalo mu to dlhšie ako pár minút, holt prax je prax.

Žila som v 5 člennej rodinke, bolo krásne mať malých súrodencov a hneď po prvých dňoch mi darovali snáď najkrajší darček, aký len mohli.... oni mi vyrobili dvere!!! Viete si to predstaviť? Staré, ošarpané, pozbíjané dvere, ale boli moje, jediné v domčeku :). Naša komunikácia bola vďaka jazykovým bariéram značne zložitá, ale časom sme si vytvorili systém, a ja som objavila, že veľa slov sa dá povedať telom. Moja nová mama na mňa nikdy nezabudla, dokonca i keď som šla na výlet, tak som dostala v novinách zabalený balíček, alebo ak ma niekto pozval na večeru, Amma stále dobehla s vidličkou a prevarenou vodou, zlatíčko. Na oplátku som rodinke pomáhala s úlohami, samozrejme len s angličtinou a matematikou a pripravila som im aj pár našich jedál, čo bol pre mňa mierny boj. Za normálnych okolností sa tiež radšej kuchteniu vyhýbam, ale pri robení kaše vidličkou, či krájaní na špeciálnom kosáčiku (nožík sa u nás nevyskytoval) som sa ofrflala snáď ako ešte nikdy. Pochopila som, že ryža sa dá jesť päťkrát denne a jedlo bez kokosu a chilly sa snáď ani nedá nazvať chutnou stravou.

Napriek tomu, že moja práca mala byť skôr ekonomická a učeniu som sa mala venovať len raz týždenne, nakoniec som popri analýzach, rozpočtoch a účtovaniu stíhala aj každodenné učenie. Nemala som takmer žiadne skúsenosti s deťmi a už vôbec nie s učením, ale ako som zistila, je to jedna veľká hra. Stačí udržať ich pozornosť, byť kreatívny, chváliť ich a všímať si ich názory. Samozrejme, nebolo to ľahké, keďže som mala žiačikov so značne odlišnou úrovňou poznatkov, ale kreslením a spievaním (áno, podarilo sa im to, čo zatiaľ nikomu. Donútili ma s mojím absolútnym antitalentom k hudbe i spievať, ale prežili sme :)). Vďaka ekonomickej práci som zas lepšie spoznala aktuálnu ekonomickú situáciu ostrova a bližšie nahliadla k fungovaniu činností v neziskových organizáciách.

Popri práci som mala aj dostatok času na cestovanie, navyše moji kolegovia boli takí milí, že ma často ma mojich cestách sprevádzali. Vďaka neúplnému odmínovaniu ostrova, je severná časť turistom ešte stále neprístupná, ale zvyšok ostrova aj tak poskytuje dokonalý zážitok - neskutočne dlhé a prázdne pláže, rozľahlé čajovníkové pláže, obrovské vodopády, hory s nekonečným výhľadom (ale aj pijavičkami), pagody, rôzne chrámy a posvätné miesta a samozrejme najznámejšia Levia hora.

Je ťažké popísať všetky dojmy a zážitky z tejto stáži. Dala mi ozaj veľa, okrem bežných vecí som sa naučila ako vyrobiť triedu len z paliem, hlinenú podlahu, či papier zo slonieho hnoja, hlavne som sa naučila vážiť si maličkostí. Dážď po dlhých týždňoch sucha je ozaj dôvodom na tanec. Neuveriteľne si ceniť darčeky ako pero, zošit, za všetko hovorí, že som došla bez pier, nechala som tam aj pár tričiek a botasky, ale tá detská radosť stála zato.

Môj odkaz je preto jednoduchý, neváhajte, nebudete ľutovať.

konference TWIN 2009

Od 30.10. do 6.11. (ano celých 7 dní) jsem se účastnil mezinárodní konference TWIN s podtitulem Trade Free-Treat Fair. Většina programu se odehrávala v Německém Karlsruhe, přestože nechyběly i mnohé poznávací zájezdy do okolních měst.

První 3 dny jsme se intenzivně věnovali tématu konference, kterým byly zemědělské politiky EU a jejich dopad na africké zemědělství. Agenda začala krátkým seznámením delegátů, následovalo představení zemí zastoupených na konferenci. Dále probíhalo seznámení s tématem, zejména formou diskuze. Probrali jsme jak a proč Evropská Unie subvencuje evropské zemědělce a vytváří kvoty na dovoz a naopak jaké problémy kvůli tomu vznikají na straně africkém zemědělství. Diskuze nepostrádala kvalitu, jelikož bylo zastoupeno 12 zemí a bezmála polovina z 25 delegátů byla z Afriky, např. Keni, Nigerie a dalších států.

Druhá polovina konference byla věnována tvoření vazeb mezi delegáty a poznávání okolních krajů. 4. den jsme navštívili Strasbourg, tamní Evropský parlament, kterým nás provedl francouzský eurokomisař. 6.den byl na plánu Heidelberg, toto staré město jsme si prohlédli a navštívili jsme místní hrad.

Závěr všech dní byl věnován zábavě. Od návštěv místních hospod, tzv. „Tramvajovou party“ a dvou Global Village (akce na které každá země názorně představuje svoji kulturu, svá národní jídla a pití) a poslední den jsme společně strávili na chatě. Byla to pro všechny delegáty vynikající šance více se sblížit a poznat se se zástupci rozličných kultur.

Během celé konference panovala velice uvolněná a příjemná nálada, která jen dále vyzývala ke sdílení zajímavých zkušeností a zážitků. Rozvíjet se v takovémto multinárodním prostředí považuji za jednu z nejlepších možností, kterou mladým lidem AIESEC poskytuje.

Congress in Istanbul

I spent more than 3 weeks in Turkey, in Istanbul. I´m very happy I´ve chosen this country due to more reasons. The most important one was the international congress called ANATOLIA.

ANATOLIA is the biggest international congress traditionally organised by LC Istanbul, which proclames its proudness to be in charge of its organisation. There were approximately 400 delegates from all over the world. The main objective is to enable Aiesecers to meet together, to feel the diversity, to show that living peacefully among various nationalities within cultural differences is possible. I had a privilege to be part of organisational crew (OC). I could see all the processes, tasks, responsibilities and problems to face and tackle.

As international OC I had a language disadvantage, so I couldn´t contribute to everything. I didn´t have the precise list of my responsibilities, so here is the short overview of my daily tasks:

1. OC´s presentation: prepared in PowerPoint. It required lot of creativity and inventitiveness as I didn´t know others before. It must have been captivating, interesting, funny. The hardships were the above mentioned lack of knowledge of OC and PowerPoint usually in turkish versionJ However, the result was satisfactory and I got to know other people better.

2. Work with Excel´s database with names of delegates: findings about who is participating in the Study Tour and who is going to buy the T-Shirts.

3. Short presentation of countries of all international MC´s.

4. During the conference:

· To prepare badges and suger cubes

· To usher groups of delegates to the buses to get to the venue

· To make some adjustments and decorations in the rooms, to inform the participants about the agenda and where is what

5. During the Study Tour:

· To supervise delegates in the city, providing them with practical information

· To help during „boat trip“ with serving drinks and meals

I´m very glad I could witness to such liveness, which reigned in this congress. The fact, that all the delegates were coming from different countries, were brought up in various cultural environments under diverse influences, required certain dosis of tolerance.

A multitude of things must have been done by OC during and mainly before this event for its smooth course. However, some obstacles were impeding these efforts. In my opinion, the congress was sometimes accompanied by little bit of chaos and logistical nuisances. It´s hard to say, where was the problem, but the members of OC were always doing their best. As OC, we had to tackle lot of petty demands and complaints.

Although we didn´t manifest all our organisational skills (also due to some external reasons or failing communication), this shortage was in full extent replaced with the big promotion. I must admit, that this congress was smartly promoted also in a public and obviously the people in charge of it have a developed sense for promotion.

At the same time, they achieved double success. Thanks to video advertisement on the famous screen in the downtown and numerous posters in buses they made not only ANATOLIA but also generally AIESEC better known among people. There was also external Global Village in a shopping mall, where all the AIESECers contributed to this succesful promotion.

Overall, this event was amazing with its special and unique atmosphere. After all, the 3 planned objectives - connecting civilisations, feeling the diversity and revealing the synergy, were fulfilled perfectly. We lived together in 5stars hotel with swimming pool and tasteful food, the ceremonies and program were presented by great Chair and the parties and internal Global Village were all about joy and fun. Later on (during Study Tour), we lived 2 nights in a considerably more modest conditions in dormitory with turkish toilets and unisex showers. Some delegates kept on moaning, some found this dormitory as a nice experience in the name of „feeling the diversity“J

Naturally, following the rule of every good conference, the word „sleep“ was erased from everybody´s vocabulary. I believe, everybody had a great time, because I certainly had. Personally, I find this experience of being international OC and working with people from LC Istanbul, as really enriching and rewarding.

The enthousiasm, eagerness and keenness of all the members of Istanbul´s LC were visible in every step they had taken. I could have a close look on their way of working, approaches, meetings, projects, to feel the local atmosphere and to see the qualities and hard work, which are behind their high ranking position among world´s LCs.

Undoubtedly, this LC is striving a lot for reaching the top with the best results. However, sometimes I had a feeling they are running just after numbers and statistically big amount of raised EPs. I´m not thouroughly sure if the quantity can always corresponde with the quality. On the other hand, their LC meetings are made very effectively and shorter, giving just summarisation of the week´s work. It was also a pleasure for me to work in such a nice office with beautiful view, enough space and even rooms, kitchen, toilet and usually full of people. I could observe their AIESEC´s spirit and willingness to work. I do not know why, but probably AIESEC has better name among the students in universities and lot of them want to join this organisation. As a result, they appreciate it more when they manage it.

For the future, I hope our LC Praha will continue with improving the good relations with LC Istanbul. We have comparable size and we are both over-averagelly functioning LCs, so we can mutually share our knowledges and strenghts. Therefore, I would suggest to intensify our cooperation.

Besides, Istanbul is one of the greatest cities I have ever visited and it really overpassed my ecpectations. It´s the only city in world which lies on 2 continents, there´s mixture of islamic and christian culture, modernity and traditions, and it´s unbelievably vivid thanks to dense concentration of people spending most of time on streets. I´ve never got bored, there is always something worth to see and visit. There are lot of places suitable for observing Istanbul, terraces, restaurants, numerous tee-houses or ordinary streets. Moreover, turkisch people are generally so polite, nice and helpful.

Summer in Lisbon, Portugal

Hello. I am Šárka and I would like to share some pieces of my experience I had a chance to have this summer. It was an unusual summer for me because I spent it in Lisbon, Portugal where I was as a CEED cooperating with Local Committee AIESEC Lisboa Nova.

CEED in an unforgettable experience. How many times in your life you can do what you like and what you enjoy, learn new things, meet and work with wonderful people who are students as you are and see your work growing somewhere at the same time? And you still have time to travel, party and meet new cultures.

My task was to help AIESEC Lisboa Nova develop their Incoming Exchange, work with trainees and prepare a reception process. However, I had a chance to be involved in almost all the areas such as communication, talent management or selling. We spent also a lot of time at the office working on different ideas, creating future steps, job descriptions and booklets and having a lot of fun. I was surprised that even though this LC is really young, their members were coming tothe office all the time and helping each other throughout the whole summer. They were working very hard and with a huge enthusiasm which motivated me as well.

However, first few days I could travel all around Lisbon and prepare some basic things. Lisbon is a beautiful city full of different cultures, history and athmosphere. What’s more, the beach is only 30 minutes by train and parks are all around the city. And did you know that if there is another earthquake in Lisbon, the whole city will disappear under the ocean?

People I met are my friends and probably always be. We spend a month together and enjoyed every moment. We went to the beach, travelling, partying, eating typical food and meeting still new and new people. Portuguese people, I had a chance to talk to, were always very friendly. They are very warm and open to new people, they try to understand and get to know you and it makes you feel like at home after a short time.

And what are some interesting facts I have figured out? Well, they drink beer from 2dcl cups or you can buy so called „litrosa“, which is a litre bottle. More than a beer they drink sangría, which is so good and so cheap.

They always after party go to this place, where they eat their typical soup „caldo verde“ or sandwich „pão com chouriço“. And they always party outside if possible.:)

Thanks to LC Lisboa Nova for this experience which made my summer one of the best ever.

Keňa 2009

Ako asi väčšina spomedzi nás, študentov, aj ja som sa koncom minulého školského roka rozhodoval ako stráviť svoje leto. Nemal som jasnú predstavu o tom čo ani kde by som chcel robiť. Jediné čo som vedel bolo, že to musí byť niekde mimo ČSR, ideálne mimo EU. Predošlé leto som strávil pracovne v USA a napriek tomu, že to bola nepochybne výborná skúsenosť, mal som chuť sa trochu viac kultúrne šokovať a vycestovať do nejakej diametrálne odlišnej krajiny. Už odmalička ma lákala Afrika a vďaka členstvu v organizácii AIESEC sa možnosť vycestovať priam sama ponúkala ako na striebornom podnose.

Je jún 2009 a môj sem začína naberať konkrétnejšie obrysy až sa mi nakoniec podarí dohodnúť letný pobyt v Keni. Vzhľadom na to, že všetko to bolo riešené veľmi na rýchlo, musel som si kupovať letenku len dva týždne dopredu (čo ale nijak drasticky neovplyvnilo cenu – práve naopak) a viete si predstaviť ako sa asi tvárila doktorka keď som k nej prišiel s tým, že o týždeň letím do Kene a potrebujem očkovania proti všetkým možným chorobám (a nie je ich zrovna málo) naraz.

Po všetkých počiatočných problémoch som teda mohol konečne vycestovať. Nie som zrovna impulzívny človek a preto som bol až do posledného okamihu z najväčšom pokoji a prvé známky nervozity na mňa prišli až keď som po prestupe v Istanbule videl v lietadle na obrazovke krajiny, ponad ktorými práve idem preletieť - Turecko, Egypt, Sudán, Etiópia a na záver Keňa. Všetko bolo zrazu reálnejšie a mňa konečne chytilo to pravé nadšenie z cesty do nepoznaného.

Po pristátí na letisku v Nairobi som zažil prvý šok a síce teplotu. Síce som vedel, že Nairobi leží prakticky na rovníku a teda počasie je tu v podstate celý rok rovnaké a aj to, že leží v značnej nadmorskej výške (1661 m), prišiel som samozrejme ako typický nevedomý európan, oblečený len v krátkom tričku a krátkych nohaviciach. Radšej som rýchlo vyhrabal sveter a išiel si nájsť nejaké teplé miesto kde strávim noc. Priletel som totiž o 1:00 a už som vedel, že ma minimálne do 8:00 nikto vyzdvihnúť nepríde. V noci je to totiž priveľmi nebezpečné.

Po prvom týždni som sa už ale cítil ako rodený Keňan. Už mi dávno nevadilo, že všade je plno ľudí, medzi ktorými sa stále nájdu jedinci, ktorí sú presvedčení, že mzungu (pozn. beloch po swahilsky) v ich krajine musí byť zaručene bohatý turista a teda ochotný sa so svojimi peniazmi podeliť. Zvykol som si na mestskú Hromadnú dopravu. Hromadnú s veľkým H, pretože tento pojem asi najlepšie vystihuje skutočnosť, že všetky autobusy aj matatu (akési malé dodávky) sa zo zastávky pohli vždy až keď boli do prasknutia plné. Nemá zmysel spomínať, že akékoľvek cestovné poriadky (časy, trasy) ani nejaké pevne stanovené cestovné tu nenájdete, všetko sa riadi podľa dennej hodiny a nálady sprievodcu, ktorý je okrem šoféra súčasťou každého dopravného prostriedku. Zvykol som si aj na miestnu menu, kenský shilling, čo nie je tak úplne ľahké, pretože aj mince s rovnakou nominálnou hodnotou vyzerajú odlišne, pretože každý prezident má tendencie nechať vyrážať nové mince so svojou podobizňou.

Pre lepšie pochopenie tohto fenoménu by sa zrejme zišlo v krátkosti načrtnúť súčasnú politickú situáciu v historickom kontexte. Ako väčšina afrických krajín v šesťdesiatych rokoch, Keňa získala nezávislosť od Veľkej Británie v roku 1963 vďaka zásluhám Jomo Kenyattu, ktorý sa stal aj prvým prezidentom Kenskej republiky. Ako zjednotiteľ národa mal pochopiteľne veľkú podporu verenosti a až do súčasnosti je v podstate najvýznamnejšou postavou v dejinách Kene, sú po ňom pomenované ulice, letisko, parky a dokonca je na jeho počesť aj štátny sviatok Kenyatta day (20.10.). Ďalším prezidentom sa stale Daniel Moi, ktorý sa preslávil hlavne bojom s narastajúcou korupciou a odporom ku komunizmu. V podstate len potvrdil silný mandát, ktorý v krajine prezident mal a tešil sa taktiež veľkej obľube zo strany verejnosti. Tretí a súčasný prezident Mwai Kibaki už ale nešiel v stopách svojich úspešných predchodcov a za jeho vlády prekvitá korupcia (najskorumpovanejšou inštitúciou je paradoxne Protikorupčný úrad), pod zámienkou ochrany domácich výrobcov sa zhoršujú podmienky pre zahraničných investorov a vláda je povestná zlým hospodárením. Nespokojnosť obyvateľstva pochopiteľne narastá, ale tradične silný mandát prezidenta spolu s faktom, že v krajine má de facto absolútne moc jedna strana, im neumožňuje konať.

Napriek všetkým týmto negatívam Nairobi ako hlavné mesto, spolu s mestami ležiacimi na hlavnej ekonomickej tepne krajiny, tiahnúcej sa popri južnej hranici s Tanzániou (os Mombasa – Nairobi - Kisumu) prosperujú a najmä v Nairobi môžme nájsť sídla najväčších svetových spoločností, národných a nadnárodných bánk ako aj jedno zo štyroch sídiel OSN. Vyplýva to z pozície mesta, ako de facto hlavného mesta regiónu Východnej Afriky, ktoré navyše disponuje dobrou bezpečnostnou aj situáciou (v porovnaní s ostatnými mestami regiónu) a výhodnou centrálnou polohou.

Keňa navyše ťaží z cestovného ruchu, ktorý tu naozaj prekvitá a do Východnej Afriky to ťahá čoraz viac zahraničných turistov. Napriek tomu som sa však v hlavnom meste cítil ako jediný, alebo jeden z mála bielych ľudí. Je to spôsobené faktom, že síce Jomo Kenyatta International Airport v Nairobi slúži pre väčšinu cestovateľov ako vstupná brána do Afriky, mnoho z nich sa po príchode vydá spoznávať krajinu mimo hlavného mesta, čo sa im absolútne nedá upierať, pretože či už sa jedná o 7 národných parkov, pobrežie Indického oceánu, zasnežené vrcholky Kilimandžára na hraniciach s Tanzániou, Viktóriino jazero (Ukerewe), alebo jednoducho transport do okolitých krajín, ktoré majú taktiež čo ponúknuť (hlavne Tanzánia a Uganda), všetko sú to turisticky hodnotnejšie miesta ako samotné Nairobi. Nesporná výhoda Nairobi, kvôli ktorej som tam aj čiastočne išiel spočíva v tom, že sa dostanete do bližšieho kontaktu s domácimi a nenarážate všade na turistov ovešaných fotoaparátmi. A okrem iného je to tiež vďaka svojej polohe výhodné miesto pre cestovanie. Nie je problém vyraziť na víkend do národného parku , pretože v okolí ich je dosť, navyše sú dobre dostupné čo sa týka dopravy a vzdialenosti a v meste sa dá nájsť mnoho spôsobov ako tieto parky cenovo výhodne navštíviť (či už sa jedná o agentúry, alebo súkromných dopravcov).

Čo sa týka mojej náplne práce, pracoval som hlavne so študentami vysokých škôl a príležitostne som bol v kontakte s firmami, ako hlavnými partnermi AIESEC v Keni. Mojím najväčším šokom (v pozitívnom zmysle) bolo zistenie, že totálne odlišným podmienkam, v ktorých tamojší ľudia žijú, je ich mentalita veľmi podobná tej našej. Prišli mi dokonca bližší ako ľudia Američania, u ktorých som naozaj zaznamenal niekoľko dosť odlišných vlastností. A v Keni nie, tu to bolo niečo úplne iné, mohol som sa správať ako doma a všetko bolo bez problémov. Zmysel pre humor, riešenie problémov, proste všetko mi prišlo tak strašne blízke, že keď prišiel čas odchodu, skoro som zmeškal lietadlo, pretože mi bolo povedané, že Keňu nemôžem opustiť triezvy a tak sme až do 1:30 (môj odlet bol 2:30) vymetali rôzne bary. A potom to prišlo. Musel som nastúpiť do lietadla a dať zbohom všetkým priateľom, ktorých som tam za 6 týždňov spoznal s vedomím, že či sa vrátim za rok alebo za štyri, môžem si byť istý, že keď im zavolám tak si na mňa spomenú a znovu spolu zažijeme veľa sjvelých zážitkov ako v lete 2009.

2 months in Brazil

Hi,

My name is Míša and i spent amazing time in Brazil in city called Vitoria during the summer.

I was there as a CEEDer together with another two CEEDers from Europe. VP Talent management from LC Paris in France and the second girl was LCP from LC Bristol in United Kingdom.

Vitoria is a big city – the capital city of the state Espirito Santo on the east.

What was the first shock for me? It came really soon, just few minutes after my plane set down in Rio de Janeiro. Can you imagine that I couldn say simple word in portuguese and after 14 hours of my flight, imigration police

came and told me that i have to go back to europe because of my visa documents? The situation was really bad because nobody could speak english there.Anyway after 8 hours waiting at the airport for my future-go back or stay in Brazil for my summer what i planne

d, the horror ended. I learned the hard way that AIESEC is really working and helping their members everytime.Thanks AIESEC Praha and also Vitoria and their great cooperation, imigration police decided that i can stay in Brazil.

After this horrible experience came just great things.I lived with one AIESEC member in her house with her, her husband, her mum and 5 dogs

These 2 months were the best in my life. I was working for AIESEC Vitoria.I helped them with the

new structure of OGX and I tried to help them with matching

companies and EPs. It was also something new for me so I learned some news about ICX .The best thing ever was to share my expe

rience from my LC with other people. I could discuss the situation of our LC with another 4 LCs from absolutelly different countries(France, UK, the Netherlands, Brazil).

But I also had the chance to see how normal people live in Brazil, what is normal day for students in my age, try different food (they eat rice and beans with some kind of meat every day).

I also met another 2 girls from the Netnerlands.They traveled around the Brazil and gave the LCs some trainings (they were part of ambasador program, which is made every

year in the Netherlands). I traveled a little bit with Dutch girls, another CEEDers from Vitoria and trainees. We spent 5 days in Rio de Janeiro and 4 days in Salvador. In Salvador we lived by one AIESEC member, what was also amazing experience . Her parents were in Czech republic-its wonder because not many people from Brazil were in Europe. Thanks our trips we could see how another LCs in Brazil work.

Did this experience change myself? Of course I learned how to enjoy my life, dont be in stress whole time and respect what I have and who I am.

CEEMOS 09 - Bosna and Hercegovina

Who wouldn´t consider Balkan as an interested destination which is worth visiting he should evaluate his opinion just again and take advantage of any opportunity as we did. Eleven of us took part in the CEEMOS 09 international conference. It took part few kilometers far from Sarajevo, the capital of The Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We met a lot of people from CEE region - Polish, Slovak, Macedonian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Greek, Slovenian, Turkish, Bosnian and Serbian. It was great to see young generation of Bosnian and Serbian cooperated together. We can´t also forget our friend Kuz from the UK...

The conference was divided into two tracks - taking responsibility and exchange track. In the TR track our members talked about leadership, exchange and its relevance in today world...they also simulated the processes from AIESEC during managerial game and improved their cultural understanding during feed backing outdoor session. In the exchange track we worked on establishing the cooperation among our local committees within the CEE, we shared our knowledge and we also talked about internal trends in exchange. In the end we have four co operations.

We enjoyed the parties - especially the last one which was connected with the internal Global Village and on Thursday - the last day of the conference - we traveled in the centre of Sarajevo where we were accommodated in hostel so we could prepare ourselves for exploring Sarajevo´s old city and Mostar - the 5th biggest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina located in the southern part of Herzegovina - containing wonderful sights.

We were impressed by the contrast of this country - houses absolutely devastated by war standing next to the new ones which we are used to in The CR. The orient next to European culture - mosques next to cathedrals... In Sarajevo it is kind of ordinary that mosque, synagogue and church are located nearby each other. All of this wondered us a lot.

But our most impressive moment should still come... our guides were naturally guys from CC (Congress committee) and after the closer recognition we started to realize the signs of war. The witness of persons who lived 4 years in the war shocked us all -

"When I was eight the war started but my memories are still fresh. My father was twice injured and now he can´t walk... When our house was destroyed we just moved to another - if it was free we could stay over there... Sarajevo was few years besieged and people didn´t have 4 years ordinary water supply...now it is much better."

This is also part of Bosnian culture. You can see that people are still afraid to buy long term possession such as new cars. All these facts were hard to imagine for us - calmly living Europeans.

We gained al above a lot of new knowledge, experiences and new friends... Motivated and fascinated we returned back to Prague.
